The main focus of Colston Loveland’s repertoire will be mental during the Chicago Bears‘ OTAs this spring. The No. 10 pick in the 2025 draft is rehabbing from the shoulder surgery he had on Jan. 29 to repair an AC joint dislocation he suffered at Michigan last season.
Loveland is not allowed to participate in contact drills during OTAs. He said in April that his doctors gave him a six-month window from his surgery before he can resume full contact, meaning it will be a stretch for Loveland to return to full contact by Day 1 of training camp in July.
In the meantime, Loveland is taking mental reps during OTAs.
Colston Loveland on his relationship with Caleb Williams

Loveland told media after practice that he is planning on building his connection with Caleb Williams this spring when veteran minicamp workouts begin.
“I haven’t got to really see him (Williams) too much in the building because we don’t ever cross paths, but we’ve talked for sure and I’m just looking forward to building that relationship and that connection, for sure,” Loveland said.

Loveland was asked if he would be able to attend voluntary summer workouts with receivers and Williams despite his shoulder rehab. Loveland said that is the “plan” as of now.
“Yeah, that’s the plan for sure,” Loveland said.
Loveland is allowed to run, but he’s not lifting heavy weights during the spring.
The more Williams and Loveland build chemistry this summer, the better it will be for the rookie when he’s able to return to full contact in practice. Hopefully, the memory Loveland is building this spring and summer will translate to efficient play on the field when he goes against an opponent in the fall.
