Angels 7, Cubs 6

Chicago — The Cubs mounted a valiant comeback in the ninth, but fail to atone for another game of poor defense. The Cubs wasted another quality start by Carlos Silva (8-2) who loses for the second consecutive game. Scott Kazmir (7-5) was just as solid as each went six innings. Torii Hunter homered to give the Angels as 3-2 lead in the sixth en route to Los Angeles’ inevitable win.

The Angels blew the game wide open in the seventh taking advantage of errors on two consecutive plays by 3B Jeff Baker that led to three runs and added another in the eighth on Derrek Lee’s fourth error of the year.

The Cubs made it interesting in the ninth as Tyler Colvin hit a three-run homer, his eighth of the year and Derrek Lee smashed his second of the game to pull within one. However, it was all for naught as Fernando Rodney induced a game-ending ground out of Geovany Soto to record his sixth save on the year.

Been following Chicago sports for many years. I have ties to Rockford, Illinois however have since been displaced in North Carolina far from Illinois. I am still an avid fan despite the geographical complications in following my teams. I am known as the internet’s #1 Rex Grossman connoisseur
