The Chicago Bulls have confirmed that they are going to trade veteran combo-guard Kirk Hinrich and no.17 draft-pick Kevin Seraphin (from France) to the Washington Wizards. This trade cannot take place until July 8th – once the Wizards will attain he cap-room to absorb Hinrich’s $9 million salary for next season. Until then, this is essentially a good-faith deal.
Bulls’ GM Gar Forman addressed the public:
“This evening we selected Kevin Seraphin with the 17th pick of the NBA draft. At this time, we are currently in discussions to trade our draft rights to Kevin Seraphin. However, we will not be able to complete a trade until after the moratorium period concludes on July 8. With that said, we are not at liberty to identify the team we are talking to or reveal any other specifics of potential trades. Therefore, we will have no comment on this selection until we have completed all trade discussions.”
The Chicago Bulls will now likely be able to afford two max-contract players in this summer’s free-agency period. The pool of players includes LeBron James, Chris Bosh, Dwyane Wade, Amare Stoudemire, Joe Johnson, Ray Allen, and David Lee.
Kirk Hinrich averaged 13.4 points, 5.8 assists, and 1.3 steals in 7 seasons in his career with the Bulls.
