The United States survived a tough test against the Spanish team on Sunday – winning 86-85.
Kevin Durant tied the game, 82-82, with 1:38 remaining in regulation with a baby hook while running the baseline. Shortly after, Chicago Bull, Derrick Rose, gave Team U.S.A. the lead with under 40 ticks remaining with a strong reverse left-handed lay-up through the body of Marc Gasol. Spain would re-take the lead with a Navarro lay-in, but Derrick Rose would hit the game-deciding free-throws. On the last defensive stand of the game, and the game’s decisive possession, Kevin Durant blocked 2 field-goal attempts by Ricky Rubio and then Rudy Fernandez to snuff out a scare from the Spanish team – who are considered to be the favorites, by many, to win the 2010 FIBA crown in a couple of weeks.
Durant definitely was the main difference, scoring 25 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.

I was pumped seeing Derrick Rose make those big shots at the end of that game. I feel like he has struggled his first 2 years on the Bulls with shots like that, and free throws as well, but seeing him drain that contested layup and 2 big free throws for a USA team. I’m just glad he’s on our side.
