The Chicago Fire selected forward Mkhokheli “Kheli” Dube from the New England Revolution in the the Re-entry Draft Stage 2 on Monday, adding more depth to an already dangerous offense. Dube, a native of the south African nation of Zimbabwe, spent time in college playing for Lindsey Wilson College in 2004 and 2005, and then Coastal Carolina University for his next two seasons. Dube entered the United States Soccer pyramid as part of the amateur United Soccer Leagues Premier Development League, where he played as a member of the Michigan Bucks. Dube scored a phenomenal 25 goals in 41 games for Michigan.
Dube was selected 4th overall by New England in the 2008 SuperDraft, and had remained a Revolution until today’s move to the Fire.
Leaving Chicago were John Conway and Baggio Husidic, whose options were declined by the Fire on November 29th. Conway ultimately found himself a member of the defending MLS Cup Champion Los Angeles Galaxy, where he will replace Donovan Ricketts on the roster. Husidic’s trip West is not quite as far as Conway’s, as he was selected by the Colorado Rapids.
