The Chicago Fire declined former captain Logan Pause’s option for the 2014 season, making the defensive midfielder eligible to be taken in the 2013 MLS Re-Entry Draft set to take place in December.
The Fire will now look to re-sign Pause or keep him in the organization to some extent for a lower price-tag. In 2013, Pause was among the higher paid players on the Fire, earning approximately $200,000 in salary for the season.
This news comes just a day after news broke that designated player Arevalo Rios and backup goalkeeper Paolo Tornaghi had had their respective options declined.
The club was busy on Tuesday, exercising the options on youngsters Victor Pineda and Kellen Gulley, the latter of which had been on loan to the North American Soccer League’s Atlanta Silverbacks. The club also reportedly exercised their option on starting goalkeeper and United States prospect Sean Johnson.
