The Fire announced on Friday that the club had re-signed midfielder Logan Pause, not disclosing the length or value of the new contract.
Pause, who is the longest currently tenured player in Major League Soccer after Colorado’s Pable Mastroeni retired following the 2013 season. By staying under contract for the 2014 season, Pause will move into a tie for second place on the all-time list for most consecutive seasons played with one club in the league with twelve seasons sating back to 2003 with the Fire. Should Pause play in the 2015 season with the Fire, he would tie former Fire defender and current assistant coach C.J. Brown for the all-time record at thirteen. Brown played for the Fire between the club’s inaugural 1998 campaign and the 2010 season.
Pause was named captain of the team before the 2011 season, but sporadic playing time due to injury resulted in fellow defensive midfielder Jeff Larentowicz wearing the captain’s armband for much of the 2013 season.
Pause, long having been a starter for the team, will re-join a midfield already consisting of Alex, Larentowicz, Patrick Nyarko and Dilly Duka. Pause has also played defense in his career, and could earn a starting job at right back over Lovel Palmer, acquired from Real Salt Lake in the offseason.
