The Grand Rapids Griffins hosted the IceHogs for the first game in the AHL Western Conference Semifinals. The Hogs had a week off in between rounds and perhaps some momentum was lost from the first round. Rockford appeared sluggish and did not really seem to catch their stride until the 3rd period. Too little, too late. This kind of playing might be ok in the regular season, but this is the playoffs and every single game counts. Excited Griffins fans got to toss their hats onto the ice late in the 3rd period when winger, Teemu Pulkkinen, scored his 3rd goal of the game.
The IceHogs and the Griffins meet tomorrow night in Grand Rapids, for game 2 of the series. Hogs return to home ice for games 3 & 4 of the series on May 13th & 14th.
