Bulls insider Aggrey Sam reports that Joakim Noah has won the NBA Defensive Player of the Year award. The team will announce the award at a press conference this afternoon.
Noah becomes the second player in franchise history to win the Defensive Player of the Year award, joining Michael Jordan who won the award in 1988. Noah was also an All-Star this season for the second time in his career.
The 6-foot-11 center is having one of the best seasons of his six year career and is averaging 11.3 rebounds, 1.5 blocks and 1.2 steals per game this season. He’s also averaging a career high 7.7 defensive rebounds per game.
Noah was a big part of the Bulls earning the number four seed in the NBA Playoffs after losing their two leading scorers in Derrick Rose and Luol Deng.
