Win: Yoervis Medina (3-2) Loss: Blake Parker (0-1)

Home Runs: CHC: Alfonso Soriano (8), Dioner Navarro (8) SEA: Jason Bay (9)

My recaps will be a little different from now on. I will give my “three stars” of the game for the Cubs, much like they do in hockey. The stars will be separated, so I will do the three stars of the game for both the Cubs and the Mariners.

This one went a bit late, with it going into 10 innings, plus the fact that they are playing on the West Coast, meaning it is a late start.

Cubs

3rd Star-Dioner Navarro: The backup catcher, who got his second straight start tonight hit a home run in the seventh, something he has been doing often as of late. He also singled in the tenth, before being removed for a pinch runner.

2nd Star-Alfonso Soriano: He is almost interchangeable with Navarro as they had extremely similar games. Soriano, coming off of two days rest, homered just two at bats before Navarro and also singled.

1st Star-Travis Wood: Another excellent outing from Wood went to waste, as he gave up just two earned runs over 6.1 innings. He allowed just three hits and struck out six, lowering his ERA to 2.85, but got a no decision as the bullpen couldn’t hold the lead.

Mariners

3rd Star-Oliver Perez: Despite pitching just one inning, Perez was one of the game’s more impressive performers. In his one inning of work, the reclamation project struck out the side on just fourteen pitches and clearly dominated the Cubs.

2nd Star-Mike Zunino: One of the newest Mariners, Zunino collected two hits, including the walk-off hit in the tenth.

1st Star-Nick Franklin: Also a rookie, Franklin added three hits for the offensively weak Mariners team. Two of his three hits were doubles, and he raised his average to a very good .302.
