For the first time all year, the Chicago Cubs have dropped back-to-back series following their 6-2 loss to the New York Mets in front of 41,673 fans at Citi Field.
One of the reasons the Cubs lost their series to the San Francisco Giants last week was due to the pitching of closer Ryan Pressly. Pressly surrendered nine runs in the 11th inning of Tuesday night’s contest to allow the Giants to win 14-5. Cubs fans wanted Pressly to lose the title of “closer” after the game.
Porter Hodge had a rough outing for the Chicago Cubs

The main reason for Chicago’s loss on Sunday was due to the pitching of Porter Hodge, a relief pitcher many thought should replace Pressly. He gave up three earned runs on three hits in the eighth inning. Chicago’s offense didn’t help either, scoring just two runs and earning three hits.)
He earned just one out before the Cubs put in Gavin Hollowell to finish the side. Hollowell allowed one run on two hits but got the final two outs.
Following the game, frustrated Cubs fans were calling on the team to add pitching help after dropping two games to the Mets this weekend and four of their last six games. (The Cubs leave New York with a 23-18 record and a 1.5 game lead on the St. Louis Cardinals for first place in the NL Central.)
Cubs fans demand changes after loss to Mets

“Hey Jed fix 3b and bullpen,” wrote a fan.
“Spend some money and stack the pitching,” argued a fan.
“Ik we lost the series but im more happy we didn’t get swept. Tough team. We need more bullpen depth, but the cubs in this 41 gauntlet stretch went 23-18. I’ll take that and we’re still first. Now we finally play bad teams and have a chance to stretch the division lead. Go cubs,” posted another.
“Hard to get mad at pitching when you only produce 2 runs, but sending Hodge out there on short rest after he closed the game last night stinks. We still need arms and until that happens, this team isn’t for real,” believes a poster.
“No bullpen. No 3B. Third straight season. We’ve all seen this nightmare dozens of times over that same time frame. 83-79 times 3 in a row? 2nd team out of October this time? Bingo,” wrote a fan.
“Bullpen implodes late and the offense couldn’t hit. Plus, it is Sunday,” posted another.
The Cubs will next play the Miami Marlins on Monday at 6:40 p.m. CST.
