The Chicago Bears had their rookie minicamp over the weekend. The newcomers had three days to adjust to the speed of NFL practices before veteran voluntary minicamp practices start on May 20.
New head coach Ben Johnson took it easy on Friday before ramping up practices on Saturday and Sunday. One rookie stood out in particular to Clay Harbor of CHSN.
Ozzy Trapilo impressed at the Chicago Bears rookie minicamp

During an appearance on 670 The Score’s “Mully & Hugh” Tuesday, Harbor said second-round pick Ozzy Trapilo was the star of rookie minicamp. A few coaches he’s talked to, including Boston College offensive line coach Matt Applebaum, said the offensive tackle is intelligent.
“(Applebaum) said in his entire career, his history of coaching football, he had never met a player that can learn a playbook as fast as Ozzy Trapilo, and just really, really said how intelligent this guy was. Ben Johnson comes in the press conference. First thing he says, ‘This guy is extremely intelligent. Everything we talked about in the meeting, he immediately brought to the field and did it the right way. He’s exactly who we thought he was.'”
The Bears are expected to test Trapilo at two spots this spring

The Bears selected Trapilo with the No. 56 pick in April’s draft. Chicago is expected to start him out at left tackle this spring, a position he played at Boston College as a freshman.
Trapilo played right tackle for most of his college career, and that could be where he gets asked to play in the regular season if Chicago moves Darnell Wright to the left side, which has been mentioned as a possibility this spring.
The six-foot-eight, 316-pound offensive lineman should have the smarts to learn to play on whatever side of the line the Bears put him at.
