Chicago Blackhawks forward Patrick Sharp will miss the bulk of training camp after undergoing an emergency appendectomy Monday night.
“Patrick Sharp underwent an emergent surgical appendectomy (Monday) evening after experiencing some abnormal abdominal discomfort,” team physician Michael Terry said. “The surgery was successful and I anticipate a full recovery in approximately three to four weeks.”
The first on-ice session of training camp is Saturday with the first preseason game scheduled for Sept. 20 against the Edmonton Oilers in Saskatoon. The Hawks’ first regular season game is Oct. 7 against theStars in Dallas.
Sharp arrived at the 12th Annual Chicago Blackhawks Charities Four Feathers Golf event Monday morning at Sunset Ridge Country Club in Northfield, but experienced discomfort and did not play. He later had the appendectomy.
Sharp, 29, had 34 goals and 37 assists last season. The veteran signed a five-year, $29.5 million contract extension in August.
