Report: Chicago Bulls expected to target Darius Garland if they land the number four pick

After another tumultuous season for the Chicago Bulls in which they finished 22-60, the Bulls are expected to land the number four overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft Lottery. Now with the draft roughly eight weeks away, multiple media outlets including CBS Sports and ESPN, predict the Bulls will draft point guard Darius Garland out of Vanderbilt University.

If you haven’t heard much about Garland during the NCAA season, it’s because he only started in five games for the Vanderbilt Commodores before suffering a torn meniscus in his left knee. In those games, the 6-foot-2 point guard averaged 16.2 points per game, 3.8 rebounds, and 2.6 assists.

Garland is considered an exceptional passer and ball handler that likes to push the pace up the floor but has a strong ability to run the pick and roll in half-court sets as well. In addition to his point guard skills, Garland is also a good shooter from behind the arc. The point guard shot 47.8 percent from the three-point line or 11 of 23 in his five games played.

Despite another losing season for the franchise, the Bulls have a talented young core that would benefit greatly from strong point guard play.

Unfortunately, current point guard Kris Dunn hasn’t exactly been what the front office was hoping for after coming over in the Jimmy Butler trade. However, with Zach LaVine, Lauri Markkanen, Otto Porter, and Wendell Carter Jr., under contract for the next few seasons, it is vital for the Bulls to have a point guard that can distribute the ball to this talented roster.

So, with the NBA Draft Lottery just three weeks away, expect the bulls to take Garland with the number four pick at this time assuming he passes his pre-draft physicals.

We aren’t getting Darius Garland, we will get a top three pick, this is fake news.

LOL. I hope it’s fake news, Adam. Even if they do get the number four pick, I don’t want this team drafting a kid that played five games and tore his meniscus. However, that’s exactly the type of move I’ve come to expect from this franchise.
