The Chicago Cubs landed starting pitcher Jose Quintana just over a week ago in a trade that saw them send four prospects to the Chicago White Sox.
Quintana gives the Cubs another legit one or two starter in their rotation along with Jon Lester and Jake Arrieta. But they might not be done adding pieces.
Chicago has been linked to Sonny Gray recently as the Oakland Athletics will be sellers at the deadline. The latest rumor comes in the form of a pitcher also in the AL West but instead on the Texas Rangers.
According to Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports, the Rangers have fielded calls for Darvish from plenty of teams as they look to gauge a price package for the starter.
Then just minutes later, MLB.com’s Jon Morosi pointed out that the Cubs are one of the teams who have made a call to Texas for Darvish.

Yet, it’s far too early to characterize the Cubs as the leader to acquire Darvish. The Yankees and Dodgers, among others, are expected to pursue the right-hander if the Rangers formally make him available. For the Cubs, Darvish would be a bold, logical move — the type of trade Epstein has made numerous times in his future Hall of Fame career.
With both Arrieta and John Lackey heading to free agency after this season, Chicago could look to add a controllable starter if they don’t go after Darvish.
If Epstein somehow lands Darvish, the Cubs rotation would be locked in for another run at the World Series in 2017.
