Report: Mitchell Trubisky won’t need surgery

Chicago Bears quarterback Mitchell Trubisky left Sunday’s win over the Minnesota Vikings on the sixth play of the opening drive, landing awkwardly on his left shoulder. Trubisky went into the medical tent before going back to the locker room and eventually was ruled out for the rest of the game.

Following the game, head coach Matt Nagy didn’t have an update on his starting quarterback’s injury and noted that the team should find out more this week. Nagy didn’t provide much of an update on Trubisky during Monday’s press conference but also didn’t rule him out vs. Oakland, either.

But just minutes before Nagy met the media, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that Trubisky suffered a dislocated left shoulder and a slight labrum tear. He’s not expected to have surgery but is doubtful for Sunday’s game in London:

Initial MRI on Bears’ QB Mitchell Trubisky revealed he has a dislocated left shoulder, with a slight labrum tear, but does not need surgery and should he back “sooner rather than later”, per source. He will travel with team to London and is unlikely to play vs. Raiders.

While it’s unlikely Trubisky plays this week, this is actually some good news regarding the injury. His season isn’t lost if this report is true and we could see him back for Week 7 vs. New Orleans at home.

Backup Chase Daniel played well replacing Trubisky and will likely get the start if Mitch can’t go. The Bears will also likely call up Tyler Bray from the practice squad.
