The Sox began the first game hot as they did the previous 3 games this one would have a different effect, unfortunately with the Sox fallin 7-6 in extra innings. The Sox beat-up Royals starter, Luke Hochevar, in the first inning, scoring 4 times and hitting pretty solidly off the starter, including a Juan Pierre triple and Konerko’s first homer of 2011. But the Sox would cool off. Juan Pierre stole his first base off the year Gavin Floyd looked as he does often in April, Flat. Gavin gave up 7 Hits and 4 runs while striking out 5, but it could have been worse than that as he was basically pitching with just a fastball. The Bullpen also continued to look flat and bad going 4.1 innings giving up 6 hits and 3 runs including Chris Sale surrendering the lead and Tony Pena giving up the winning run for the Royals. Crain and Santos looked good going a combined 3.1 innings giving up zero runs on 2 hits.
The finale of the series started to look like the Royals had the Sox number. Juan Pierre continued his hot streak as he DH’ed for appendix-less Adam Dunn, he went 3/6 and stole base #2 of the year. Back-up catcher extraordinaire Ramon Castro hit his first HR of the Year. Alex Rios continues to look on the upswing going 2/6 with his first RBI. Carlos Quentin was again the man of the game going 4/6 with a Homer and 3 RBIs, which included a go-ahead 2-run double with 2 outs. The Sox fielding left much to be desired, including sure handed Brent Morel who already earned his 3rd error of the year. Mark Buehrle looked BAD!! Giving up 5 runs on 8 hits waled 2 and K’d 2. Matt Thornton earned a Blown Save as he gave up a run over 2 innings pitched and Chris Sale earned the victory in relief giving up 1 hit over 2.o
