Sox take series against Marlins

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.

The Sox started the series with a huge 8-0 win on Friday Night.  Every aspect of the game the Sox did to perfection.  Getting runs had been a huge issue for this team.  Alexei Ramirez provided much needed offense as he had 5 RBI including a 3 run bomb to left field.  Another unlikely hero in that game was Mark Kotsay as he blasted a solo shot.  Mark Buehrle pitched a gem as went 8 innings giving up 3 hits and no runs. Carlos Quentin was moved to 7th in the line up last week because of his sub .200 batting average.  He was great Friday but he did get on base and did have a sac fly to add to the offensive fun.   Sergio Santos locked it down in the 8th with 3 straight outs. Mark Buehrle is now 3-5 on the season.  Could this be the start of big things and a big come back for the South Siders?

The Sox took game 2 of the series by a score of 4-1.  Gavin Floyd picked up his 2nd win on the season giving up only 1 run.  In recent games Gavin looked as he had almost lost confidence is his ability as a pitcher.  Gavin has the ability to be a 20 game winner, but I don’t know if he knows it. Gavin also tends to leave the ball up in the strike zone which is the money spot for many hitters.  If Gavin can pitch like he did Saturday he can turn this season around for himself and his teammates.  Alex Rios was a big part of the win as he knocked in 3 runs which included a solo shot.  Alex also has 13 stolen bases on the season. Gavin Floyd is now 2-4 on the season.

Sunday was such a disaster, the only way I can really think to describe it.  Batters were just jumping all over Freddy Garcia. The only innings in which the Sox didn’t score was the 4th and the 9th.  There was nothing fancy about the offensive outburst just small ball as Ozzie would put it.  Singles and sac flies would be the key to the Marlins series ending win.  Josh Johnson was brilliant going 6 innings, giving up 6 hits and 0 runs.  The bullpen also combined for a 1 hit o run, 3 inning apperance.  It was a whole other story for the Sox.  Freddy Garcia went 2.1 innings allowing 7 runs.  Randy Williams was no better in his relief apperance as he went 2.1 innings giving up 8 hits and 4 runs. Freddy Garcia is now 3-3 on the season.

The Sox look to start a new winning streak in Cleveland this week.
