The Chicago Sky began their training camp for the upcoming season on Sunday at Sachs Recreation Center in Deerfield, Illinois. Rookie Hailey Van Lith was back practicing on the court with her former teammate Angel Reese for the first time since they were at LSU in 2023-2024.
Following her selection to the Sky at No. 11, Van Lith said she hoped to fall to Chicago in the draft. She was excited to be reunited with Reese. Reese said earlier this week that she’s trying to be a “big sister” for the point guard, as the second-year power forward suggested she wasn’t supported in her rookie season.
The Sky are set to play an exhibition match on Friday against the Brazilian national team at 8 p.m. CST at Pete Maravich Assembly Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana–the same home court that Reese and Van Lith used to call home.
The Chicago Sky’s newest duo has been doing “stupid stuff”

Before the game, Van Lith told reporters that she’s enjoyed reuniting with Reese during training camp. The two have goofed around doing “stupid stuff” at times.
“I obviously have always really enjoyed being around Angel,” Van Lith said via video from Julia Poe of the Chicago Tribune. “She’s a great girl off the court. Number one, I think we have a ton of fun just being 23-year-olds doing stupid stuff. So I enjoy being around her.
“And you know, she’s a competitor, so I can’t wait to get to play with her again. And just let both of our competitive energies amplify one another.”

Angel Reese seems more supported

Following a tumultuous 2024 that saw the locker room have drama between Chennedy Carter and multiple players, it’s nice to see a Sky roster that’s coming together. Chicago needed positive chemistry for Reese, a budding star in the WNBA.
If Van Lith and Reese can turn their “competitive energies” into a more efficient offense, the Sky could be a fun team to watch as the calendar shifts to the fall.
