The Chicago Blackhawks activated goaltender Corey Crawford from injured reserve today and will be sending current backup goaltender Colin Delia down to the Rockford IceHogs of the American Hockey League.

“Of course, you’re concerned. You want every player to avoid injury not just Corey,” General Manager Stan Bowman told the media at Monday’s press conference.

“I think he’s certainly prepared himself well. He’s really worked at it. He’s taken his time. I know there’s a lot of concern for him not only from the media and the fans but internally to make sure that he’s on the right path and he’s ready to play. I think when you talk to him, he’s excited. He wants to get back on the ice. I know he’s been pushing for us to get him back there even sooner.”

There is no report on when Crawford will make his first start after missing 28 games since suffering a concussion in December, but the Blackhawks are definitely a better team with Crawford. The Blackhawks have a record of 236-138-47 with Crawford in the crease.

If Crawford can return to his All-Star caliber form, it will definitely be a benefit for the Hawks even though he stills plays behind a defense that gives up the second most shots on goal per game (35.2) and more goals per game (3.73) than any other team in the NHL.

After back-to-back losses to the Colorado Avalanche and the Dallas Stars, the Blackhawks find themselves five points behind the Minnesota Wild for the second wild card spot with just 19 games left to play in the season. The Blackhawks will look to get back in the win column on Wednesday when they head to California to take on the struggling Anaheim Ducks.
