Where The Hell They Been? Craig Krenzel 2010

Where The Hell They Been? 2010 is a weekly column we’ll be doing. Each week we’ll feature a former Chicago athlete and pose the question, where the hell they been? Grueling research (google search) goes into retrieving their current whereabouts & situations they are in. This week we’ll be asking where the hell has former Chicago Bears QB Craig Krenzel been?

Craig Krenzel looked to be a great prospect out of Ohio State University in 2004 until you know…he actually played. Being a backup quarterback for the Bears is a revolving door type position. You have a steady job until you are actually forced into playing.

Upon the realization that you are terrible, you are swept out for the next candidate. Many Bear fans thought we may have had a potential keeper. When forced into play, Krenzel’s first 3 games he actually came away with a 3-0 record. Then it was all downhill from there.

For Krenzel, 2004 was riddled with abysmal quarterback play, a season ending ankle injury, and more time spent on his back than Jenna Jameson. Krenzel played in 6 games in the 2004 season and was 59/127 for 718 yards, 3 touchdowns and 6 interceptions. The most interesting stat is that Krenzel was sacked 23 times. Connections could be made between a draw bridge and Craig Krenzel because he was always “laying down”

After the 2004 season, Krenzel was cut by the Bears and the only team to give him a chance was the Cincinnati Bengals. He wasted away the 2005 season on 3rd string. He hasn’t been heard from since.

Unfortunately that isn’t the case. He is actually alive and is a commentator on 97.1 The Fan in Columbus, Ohio. We wish you the best of luck in all your endeavors Craig. As long as those endeavors don’t bring you into the state of Illinois ever again. I will give him his props because in college at Ohio State, he was one BAMF.

Craig Krenzel didn’t even expect to play in the NFL. He went to college to be a doctor and just so happened to win a championship and get drafted. You aren’t funny or clever by the way dude.

This Joe dude has a point about you not being funny. Craig was a game manager for the Buckeyes, it was nice to see him have the chance in the NFL, but everyone in Columbus assumed it would never be more than a cash grab for him. And of course like all Ohio State stars, he could come back and will be forever taken care of.
