Addison Russell makes some history with the Chicago Cubs
Chicago Cubs shortstop Addison Russell has done something in 2016 that has only been done by one other player in franchise history.
Russell joins Mr. Cub himself, Ernie Banks, as the only two Cubs shortstops to hit 20 home runs and record 90 RBI’s in a season. The shortstop accomplished the feat during Sunday night’s 9-5 win over the Houston Astros.
Here’s the monster home run that pushed Russell to that mark:

The ball lands on the train tracks at Minute Maid Park. Absolutely crushed.
Banks achieved the feat in 1955 as a 24-year-old shortstop for the Cubs. He hit 44 home runs and finished with 117 RBI’s on the season. Banks would accomplish this feat a total of six times, including both of his MVP seasons in 1958 and 1959.
At 22-years-old, Russell is a key part to the Cubs young core they have built through trades and the draft. He’s currently tied for the league lead in RBI’s among shortstops. Russell is also a damn wizard defensively, so yeah he’s pretty damn good.
