Chicago Cubs outfielder Pete Crow-Armstrong earned a home run on Sunday against the New York Mets. The achievement should have been a special moment for PCA, who the Mets traded to the Cubs in 2021 in exchange for Javier Báez and Trevor Williams.

New York drafted Crow-Armstrong in the first round of the 2020 draft. He initially thought it was a joke when he learned the Mets traded him to the Cubs.

Crow-Armstrong wasn’t in a laughing mood following the Cubs’ 6-2 loss to the Mets in front of 41,673 fans at Citi Field on Sunday. The loss was Chicago’s fourth in five games, and gave New York a 2-1 series win.

Per Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune, Crow-Armstrong gave an explicit answer to reporters after the game when asked if he felt any vindication by hitting a home run against the organization that prematurely traded him.

“Nothing, if it has no impact on how this game ends, I don’t give a (expletive),” Crow-Armstrong said.

Crow-Armstrong has been a pleasant surprise for the Cubs this season, and is making a statement after betting on himself by turning down a $75 million contract extension from Chicago in April.

The Cubs’ 6-2 loss wasted PCA’s home run and solid outing by starting pitcher Matthew Boyd. He gave up six hits and two home runs in six innings, posting a 2.78 ERA. Boyd said the Cubs were focused on their two-series home stand against the Miami Marlins and Chicago White Sox this week.

“There’s going to be different whatever trends and whatnot over the course of 162 games,” Boyd said. “So we just keep playing our game, and the best part about baseball is you get an opportunity tomorrow to come out there and play at home with the best fans behind us at Wrigley and I’m looking forward to it.”

The Cubs need to use this week to distance themselves from a quickly approaching St. Louis Cardinals team. The Cardinals have won eight games in a row and are one game back from Chicago for first place in the NL Central.
