The Chicago White Sox have not had the best luck this season dealing with injuries. The White Sox have had most of their injuries affect their pitching department, but they’ve also had to deal with injuries to guys who contribute to the lineup.
Thankfully, most of their players on the injured list are slowly working their way back and could be back soon to help the White Sox get back to winning. The White Sox in their last ten games are 4-6 and are in the middle of the Crosstown Classic with the Chicago Cubs, getting crushed in game one by a score of 13-3.
Getting those players back will be critical to prevent losses like that from happening, but sadly, another injury has occurred to one “key” piece to the bullpen.

The White Sox really can’t catch a break, with them announcing that left-handed reliever Tyler Gilbert has been placed on the 15-day injured list with a sprained MCL in his left knee, and they have recalled left-hander Jared Shuster from Triple-A Charlotte. Shuster had recently been sent down to make room for right-handed reliever Miguel Castro, whom the White Sox acquired in a trade with the Houston Astros.

Gilbert had been performing well before suffering the sprain. In 13 games this season, which included three starts, he has a 1-1 record with an ERA of 4.85 and has held hitters to a .178 average. Shuster has been up and down for the White Sox this season and has filled in when things like this happen. In eight games, Shuster has a 7.59 ERA in 10.2 innings, and hitters are hitting a whopping .347 against him.
Positive injury news

Thankfully, this time, when there’s bad news, the White Sox are getting some positive injury news. MLB.com’s Scott Merkin has reported that outfielder Mike Tauchman and catcher Korey Lee should be ready to return by the start of next home series, which starts on Monday. Merkin is also reporting that the White Sox will decide next week if outfielder Andrew Benintendi can return off the injury list or if he’ll need a rehab assignment.
“Injury rehab updates: Tauchman and Lee sound as if they will be ready for return by the start of the next homestand (Monday starts it). Slater is not far behind them. The White Sox will decide next week whether Benintendi can return or needs an injury rehab.”

Tauchman and Lee have been on the injured list since April 10, when they both suffered injuries. Lee tweaked his ankle on a pickoff play, and Tauchman aggravated his hamstring when he tried to score on a single hit by third baseman Miguel Vargas. Being back in working order and helping the White Sox score runs will help.
To make room once Tauchman and Lee return, the White Sox could look to option someone like Brooks Baldwin to Triple-A after he has struggled, and Matt Thaiss, who would be the option since Edgar Quero has been a success since coming up. Baldwin seems ready for a stint down with Charlotte as he’s hitting .105 with a .334 OPS in his last seven games, and in the past 30 games, he’s hitting .216 with an OPS of .612.
