Briggs was pulled from yesterday’s game against Washington
LAKE FOREST- Multiple sources are reporting that Lance Briggs will miss the next 4-6 weeks with the shoulder injury he sustained in yesterday’s loss to Washington. Now the Bears must figure out how to move on without the pro bowler. The immediate solution will be to replace Briggs in the lineup with either Blake Costanzo or Khaseem Greene who both saw playing time yesterday after Briggs was taken off of the field.
This could also mean increased playing time for Jerry Franklin who was elevated from the practice squad just days before the Bears took the field against the Redskins. It’s possible that general manager Phil Emery could bring in another linebacker to add depth to the position.
Perhaps Marc Trestman and his staff could consider using rookie Cornelius Washington as a linebacker until No. 55 heals. Washington who was drafted as a defensive end, also had plenty of snaps at outside linebacker during his college years at Georgia. At the end of the day, there is no way the Bears can truly replace what Briggs brings to the table.
During the next few weeks however, they will have to try their best. The defense will have it’s work cut out for them especially after giving up almost 500 yards of total offense yesterday. Now we await word on the fates of Jay Cutler and Charles Tillman.
