The IceHogs won in a Shutout game last night against the Lake Erie Monsters, 5-0. But, more importantly, their netminder, Michael Leighton, made AHL History. He broke a 40 year old record of 45 shutout games, when he earned his 46th career Shutout Win. The record was previously held by Johnny Bower. Leighton celebrated on ice with his teammates and family immediately after the final buzzer sounded.
The IceHogs had a score to settle with the Monsters, as they had lost their last 2 games to that team last week while on the road. Brian Bickell started off the team’s scoring frenzy at the top of the 2nd period. Followed then by teammates PC Labrie, Mark McNeill and Tanner Kero. The 3rd period started with Lake Erie making a goaltender change, switching from starter, Brad Theissen to Anton Forsberg. But, that change did not stop the run-away train the IceHogs were riding. Labrie put the icing the proverbial cake in the 3rd frame, by netting his 2nd goal of the night.
IceHogs Roster Update – It was the NHL trade deadline on Monday and the Chicago Blackhawks made several trades that effected the IceHogs roster. Traded were Marko Dano(F), Dennis Robertson(D) and Rob Scuderi(D). Phillip Danault(F) was also traded by Chicago. Danault was on a recall to Chicago when the trade occurred. Assigned to the Rockford roster by the Blackhawks were the following players that they received in trade deals – Drew MacIntyre(G), Matt Fraser(F) and Jay Harrison(D). Mac Carruth(G) and the Blackhawks came to terms with a new contract and with the aquisition of MacIntyre, Carruth was reassigned to the Indy Fuel. The Blackhawks also came to contract terms with Kyle Baun(F).
It’s a busy week for the IceHogs…3 home games in 4 days time. Today the IceHogs host the Monsters again and on Tuesday they host division rivals, the Milwaukee Admirals. The puck drops at 4pm today and 7pm on Tuesday.
