Chicago Fire in discussions with Brazilian soccer star Neymar: Report

The Chicago Fire could become must-watch television for MLS fans.

In recent years, it’s been in vogue for big-ticket European stars to travel across the pond and play on the pitch in the United States. Lionel Messi signed with Inter Miami and earned the Landon Donovan MVP Award for the 2024 MLS season.

The Chicago Fire are in talks with a Brazilian superstar

Per a report by Foot Mercato, a French publication, the Fire have started talks with Neymar Jr. to join the club. Per an English paraphrase of the report by Yahoo Sports, the Fire are seeking a two-year deal with the 32-year-old:

Chicago Fire have reportedly entered into discussions with the Brazilian international and are thought to be keen on offering him a two-year contract. Foot Mercato clarifies that the conversations are in the early days of what could be a long process for his signature.

The former Paris Saint-Germain star has struggled with serious fitness issues since leaving the French capital for Saudi Arabia ahead of the 2023/24 season. Neymar has only managed to play seven games in total since making the move to Al Hilal.

Neymar can play left winger, attacking midfielder and forward. He’s a Brazial legend as the country’s all-time top goalscorer and is the highest-scoring Brazilian in the UEFA Champions League.

Neymar would be an incredible get for the Fire and could help make Chicago one of the premier teams in the MLS. He’d team up with first-year manager Gregg Berhalter, the former manager of the US Men’s Team.

The Fire finished with the Eastern Conference’s worst record in 2024, going 7-18-9 (30 points). Only the San Jose Earthquakes (6-25-3) finished with a worse record in the MLS.
