Beer of the Week 1/11

This week's BOTW: Great Divide Oak Aged Yeti Happy New Year! I know, I know, I'm a little late. I had a huge hangover to work off, these things take time. To prepare you for the impending cold and snow (even though it's going to be in the 50s), I've selected the Oak Aged Yeti for Beer of the Week. This beer is the angry older brother of Great Divide's Yeti imperial stout (because I imagine sitting in an oak ...

Beer of the Week 12/21

This week's BOTW: Anderson Valley Winter Solstice Today, as most of you know is supposedly the end of the world. But, what many don't realize is that today is also the Winter Solstice. That fact made this week's BOTW an obvious choice. Anderson Valley's Winter Solstice is a delicious beer. It's easy drinking with plenty of flavor and a good amount of booze to warm you up on those cold winter nights. The nic ...

Beer of the Week 12/14

This week's BOTW: Stone Enjoy By 12.21.2012 If you enjoy hops, you're going to enjoy the Enjoy By series that Stone's been putting out. This sucker is slammed to the brim with hops, multiple varieties with loads of aroma and flavor. It's low on the bitterness considering how much hop flavor and aroma is present. It's a pale yellow color with a thin white head, nothing overly extraordinary. Once you get the ...

Beer of the Week 12/7

This week's BOTW: Two Brothers Cane and Ebel Brewed with Thai palm sugar (Cane), the Two (Ebel) Brothers put together a red rye beer that explodes out of the gate. It’s reddish brown in color with a big floral hop aroma, much more than you’d expect with any rye beer. The flavor I found very interesting. It has a nice smooth sweet malty flavor, but it’s quickly overcome by a spicy, almost ginger taste that c ...

Beer of the Week 11/30

We skipped last week. I'm sure you were busy with your own pile of beer, or were passed out on the couch mid-game (I know I was). This week's BOTW: Pipeworks Abduction Bringing back the Beer of the Week after a holiday needs to be momentous. It needs to be something important. Something huge. Something strong enough to make you reconsider our decision to drink a 22oz bottle. The Abduction from Pipeworks is ...

Beer of the Week 11/16

This week's BOTW: Boulevard Nommo Dubbel This week I'm recommending a tasty beverage out of Kansas City. The Nommo Dubbel is a part of Boulevard's Smokestack Series (some of their higher-end stuff, not that their regular beers are any less than good). It has a deep red color and thick creamy head that are incredibly inviting on this Trappist style beer. The aroma is full of dried fruit and Belgian yeast spi ...

Beer of the Week 11/9

This week's BOTW: Pipeworks Well Read Temptress This week I'm throwing you a curve ball. Take a look at that picture. Does that pink thing look like a beer to you? The majority of people will say, "no, that looks like a wine cooler". The majority of people would be wrong. I don't drink wine coolers (unless I'm stuck on a desert island with a bad case of the shakes). That pink beauty is the Well Read Temptre ...

Beer of the Week 11/2

This week's BOTW: Half Acre The Hammer, The Bullet, & The Vise Half Acre is definitely a favorite of mine. It's hard to dislike a brewing company that makes great beer AND is nearly in my backyard. This week I picked The Hammer, The Bullet, & The Vise from Half Acre. It's an English Brown that's thick and malty with a kick of hops to keep things balanced. Also, it only comes in a growler, so that's ...

Beer of the Week 10/26

This week's BOTW: Allagash Curieux I know, it's not a Chicago beer. But! It's incredible, so I'm telling you, you have to get it. The Allagash Curieux is their original Tripel ale aged in Jim Beam barrels for two months, then blended with a little more Tripel, and finally bottled for your tasting pleasure.  The end product is delicious and will definitely leave you with a good buzz. Bright golden orange col ...
