The Blackhawks survive their home opener against the Blues 3-2 earning their first 3-0-0 start since the 1972-1973 season.

Chicago jumped out on top first when Patrick Sharp and Patrick Kane ran a give-and-go route finished by Kane who slid one past Blues goaltender Brian Elliot for a 1-0 lead.

Brandon Bollig dropped the gloves for the second time this season duking it out with Chris Stewart in a solid battle.

Both teams possessed a power play opportunity in the first period, but neither could capitalize.

Towards the mid-way mark of the second period, Brent Seabrook cashed in on the teams third power play chance to extend Chicago’s lead to two goals.

The third period got interesting.

Viktor Stalberg presented the Blackhawks with an insurance goal (which would turn out to be the game-winner) as he potted his second goal of the year just two minutes into the third period.

But St. Louis responded quickly after Andy McDonald found the back of the net that broke Corey Crawford’s shutout bid.

In the later stages of the third, Niklas Hjalmarsson was guilty of a questionable holding penalty that awarded the Blues their second power play of the night.

23 seconds later, T.J. Oshie burried a wide open goal to cut the Blackhawks lead 3-2. But that would be enough for Chicago to pick up their third straight victory.

Patrick Kane extended his point streak to three games (2 goals, 3 assists).

The six Blackhawks defenseman combined for a total of 16 blocked shots tonight.

Corey Crawford was phenomenal as he stopped 32 of 34 (.941) shots to earn his well-earned second win of the season.

Power Play: 1-for-3 (Chicago has now scored at least one power play goal in their first three games).
Penalty Kill: 1-for-2

WHAT’S NEXT?
The Blackhawks will invade Dallas Thursday night to take on the Stars in the first of three meetings this season; puck drop at 7:30pm CT!
