Cubs 3, Athletics 2

Chicago — It appeared as though Randy Wells with the help of pitching coach Larry Rothschild have corrected the issues that have plagued the right-hander of late as Wells earned his first quality start in almost a month by tossing seven innings of two run baseball to help the Cubs win the series at Wrigley over Oakland.

Mark Ellis hit a leadoff homer in the 7th to give Oakland the lead 2-1, but Wells was saved a loss by Xavier Nady’s sac fly in the 8th off A’s closer Andrew Bailey knocking in Kosuke Fukodome, who drove in the game-winning run in the bottom of the ninth.

Fukodome entered as a pinch-hitter in the 8th and went 2-2. Geovany Soto also had two hits and scored the game-winning run on Fukodome’s hit past a diving Ellis with the A’s infield drawn in.

Dallas Braden threw six innings of one run ball and Rajai Davis and Ellis finished with two hits in a losing effort.

Been following Chicago sports for many years. I have ties to Rockford, Illinois however have since been displaced in North Carolina far from Illinois. I am still an avid fan despite the geographical complications in following my teams. I am known as the internet’s #1 Rex Grossman connoisseur
