Former NBA All-Star Charles Barkley was a guest on “The Waddle & Silvy Show” today on ESPN 1000. Barkley not only discussed the Chicago Bulls chances, but he also defended Jay Cutler and ripped his critics.
Barkley who is a analyst for TNT during the NBA season was quick to jump on Chicago’s side Tuesday.
Barkley was asked about the Bulls and their fast rising MVP contender Derrick Rose. “”Derrick Rose has passed (Utah’s) Deron Williams as the best point guard in the NBA, and right now he’s got to be the front-runner for MVP. He’s been fantastic.”
Barkley also commented on the Bulls season so far, and their chance in the Eastern Conference. Barkley was quick to jump on the Bulls bandwagon. “When you look at the Eastern Conference, the Chicago Bulls are the most dangerous team if they get everybody healthy. … They can be flat-out scary.”
A popular topic all season for the Bulls has been the possibility of acquiring Carmelo Anthony from the Denver Nuggets. The Nuggets reportedly want Joakim Noah, but the Bulls won’t budge. Barkley offered his input on it by saying “If they can get (Denver’s Carmelo Anthony) and not give up Rose and Noah, I’d do that in a heartbeat. … If you could get Carmelo to go with Derrick Rose, and Noah, and (Carlos) Boozer, I’d love your team for the next 10 years”
Possibly one of the most debated topics in Chicago sports history happened this weekend at Soldier Field. When Jay Cutler left the game Sunday, many current and former NFL players offered their input on the situation. Many ripped Cutler and questioned his heart and love for the game.
That didn’t sit well with Barkley. “I was mad at the players. Reporters, they do what they want to, they’re entitled to their opinions. But as players, I don’t think it’s appropriate to question another guy’s heart. I think they’re crossing the line.”
One of Barkley’s targets was Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew who openly ripped Cutler, but then later back peddled and tried covering up his recent comments.
“You start looking at all the stuff that has been said, and clearly one of the more vocal critics was (Jacksonville’s) Maurice Jones-Drew. And then you find out he missed the last two games with a bad knee. And he was really the first guy who crucified Jay. … It really makes him look like an idiot now.” Commented Barkley
